Surah Al-Fatihah (1:1-7)

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

(In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionable) - This is the opening chapter (surah) of the Quran, consisting of seven verses (ayat). It was revealed in Makkah (Makkiyyah) before the Hijrah. It is called Al-Fatihah (the Opening) because it is the first chapter of the Quran and serves as the key to the entire Book. It is also known as "Umm al-Kitab" (Mother of the Book) and "Umm al-Quran" (Mother of the Quran).

This surah encapsulates all the major themes of the Quran: Tawhid (oneness of God), faith, promise and warning, worship, and supplication. It serves as a foundation for the entire Quranic message.
